Earthmoving that sets the whole job up right
Earthworks is the first thing done on site and the most expensive thing to fix once it's wrong. Levels that are out, fill that isn't compacted properly, or spoil that's handled badly will follow a build through every stage that comes after it. That's why the work is planned before the machine arrives, not worked out on the fly.
Across Sydney that means dealing with sandstone, reactive clay, tight suburban access and strict service corridors. Whether it's a single house pad or a bulk cut for a commercial development, the site is set out to the plan, cut and filled to the right levels, and left clean and ready for the next trade.
Earthworks built for Sydney ground
Sydney ground is rarely straightforward. Large parts of the city sit on Hawkesbury sandstone, so a dig that starts in soil can hit rock that needs a breaker or saw. Western Sydney and the Hills bring reactive clay that swells and moves with moisture, which changes how fill is placed and compacted. Add tight terrace access, steep or sloping blocks on the North Shore and Northern Beaches, and strict service corridors right across the basin, and it's clear why local knowledge matters. The work is scoped around the ground you're actually on, not a generic method, so levels hold, fill stays stable and there are no surprises once the machine is on site.
What's included
What earthworks and earthmoving covers
-
Site cuts & levelling
Cutting and grading a block to the right levels for a house pad, driveway, shed or commercial slab.
-
Bulk earthmoving
Shifting large volumes of soil and material to shape a site for development, cut to fill balanced on site where possible.
-
Cut and fill
Removing material from high points and compacting it into low points to build stable, level ground to spec.
-
Detailed excavation
Footings, trenches and precise digs where levels and edges have to be exact.
-
Spoil management
Excess material loaded out and carted away, or reused on site as engineered fill where suitable.
-
Site preparation
Clearing, stripping topsoil and getting the ground ready so following trades aren't held up.
The projects we prepare ground for
Earthworks sits at the start of almost every build. Common jobs across Sydney include new house pads and knock-down rebuilds, driveways and hardstands, shed and granny flat slabs, pool and retaining wall cuts, subdivision and development site preparation, and bulk cut-and-fill for commercial pads. Sloping blocks often need a benched cut and a retaining solution, while new builds need topsoil stripped and levels set before footings go in. If you're not sure what your site needs, a site assessment sorts it out, and you get a clear scope and fixed price before anything starts.
How we work
A clear process from first call to clean handover
-
Step 01
Assess & quote
Site inspection, plan and level review, and service location. You get a clear, fixed-price quote with no hidden variations.
-
Step 02
Move earth safely
Licensed operators, services protected, ground cut and filled to plan with the right machine for the access and volume.
-
Step 03
Clean & hand over
Spoil removed or placed as fill, site left tidy and to level, ready for the next stage.
What to expect
Straightforward from quote to completion
Every earthworks job starts with a look at the site and the plans, not a phone estimate. Access, ground type and how much material has to move are worked out before the machine arrives, which is what keeps a job on program. You get a fixed price covering the dig, cartage and cleanup, so there's one number and no drip-fed extras. And if the honest answer is that the job is smaller or simpler than you expected, you'll be told that too.

Earthworks questions, answered
It depends on the volume of material, site access, ground type and how much spoil needs carting away. A small site cut or levelling job is priced very differently to bulk earthmoving for a commercial pad, and rock or reactive clay adds time and cost. Rather than a one-size number, every job gets a fixed price after a site assessment covering the dig, cartage and cleanup, so you know the full cost before work starts.
They overlap. Earthworks is the broad term for shaping and preparing ground, including cutting, filling, levelling and trenching. Earthmoving usually refers to shifting larger volumes of material with machines. On most jobs they're part of the same scope and quoted together.
Yes. The same crew works across a single backyard house pad through to bulk cut-and-fill for commercial and civil sites, with the machine sized to the job, from mini excavators for tight access up to larger gear for bulk work.
Yes. Dial Before You Dig is standard, with detection and hand-exposure where needed, so services are found before any machine work begins. On earthworks a strike is one of the biggest risks, so this is never skipped.
Excess spoil, clay and fill is loaded out and carted away, or reused on site as engineered fill where the material and levels suit. Tipping and haulage are set out clearly in the quote so there are no surprises.
A small site cut or levelling job can be a day or two; bulk earthmoving on a larger site runs longer and depends on volume, access and weather. You get a realistic timeline with the quote so it can be coordinated around the rest of the build.
